New family member

26 Apr

As many of you know, we had to say goodbye to Banyan earlier in April. We had been making preparations for some time, as his kidneys had been failing for several months. We decided that we’d like to save a death row doggy, both in honor of Banyan and to celebrate new life (the circle continues).

So, last week we adopted a little girl from southern California (an area notorious for its kill shelters and poor animal treatment). She’s about four months old, weighs in at an impressive six pounds, and is the joy of our family. To be fair, Max still hasn’t decided what he thinks of having a little sister shadowing him around. We’re hoping that her outgoing, loving nature will teach Max a thing or two about how nice strangers can be (but not holding our breath).

Andy and the girls drove about 800 miles this week to pick her up from a wonderful rescue called Kilby Kountry. Kilby Kountry received Abby from a transporter out of the LA area called Bugsy’s Buddies who picked her up from the shelter for us and drove her up to Eureka. If you are considering adopting a new furry friend, you should check them out!

Meet our little Abby (so named for many London spots – since we finalized her adoption while we were in London).

This one’s blurry…but I love the joyful look on Peyton’s face!
