We are west coast river sailors…used to windy gorge weather…but that is it! Having only owned Tango for a month, we are facing our first east coast hurricane, Irene.
We spent many hours listening to the old salts here in Herrington Harbor, reading boat prep guides, and asking lots of questions. We had a tricky time figuring out the best way to “spider-web” the boat with our bulkhead/side-tie slip. We finally figured out a method, using some extra long lines to the dinghy dock behind us.
We also learned how to take down the jib, the bimini, and everything else that can be removed. Good things to know…not a fun way to learn them.
Then, we offloaded all critical possessions and headed to a hotel several miles inland. Several folks in our marina were staying aboard, but we don’t think a hurricane is the best introduction to boating life for Madi and Peyton. Both girls are very resilient and enjoyed the storm in spite of our concerns.
